Summer 2014

We loved hummus but couldn’t find anywhere to eat it in traditional style, in a bowl with a fresh warm pita on the side to rip & dip. With a load of innocence and passion, a borrowed gazebo and a small fryer from Argos, we set out around the streets and parks of Leeds and people started to fall in love with Humpit. We needed to find a home…

Leeds Corn Exchange

September 2014

The heart of innovation, quirkiness and independence, the Corn Exchange welcomed us with open arms as a pop-up and we quickly became the talk of the town (and number one on Trip Adviser after only 8 weeks of opening).

Meeting Richard

September 2015

Our hard work paid off and we were crowned Virgin Start-up Street Food Winner at the 2015 Foodpreneur Festival in London. Richard loved our falafel and even gave us a hug! We started talking about branch number 2.

Sheffield

March 2016

Just down the M1 and the home of two great universities and lots of young professionals, this city was an obvious choice. The store is tiny but we created a huge buzz and we’ve been looking for a larger site for some time now.

Leeds Uni

September 2017

Students of Leeds voted Humpit as the food company they most wanted to see within the new food court to be opened inside the union building. We got a call and had agreed everything within a few days. Freshers’ week 2017 was our busiest week ever at Humpit and we just love all of our amazing students (and uni staff of course!).

York

February 2018

The busiest tourist city in the UK outside of London and recently voted the best place to live in the country, we just had to open a Humpit in York. Its our most ambitious project yet, with more seating, more food options and open late. We are just around the corner from the Minster in a listed building…where is that borrowed gazebo?

The Future...

We have certainly been through a very strange few months since lockdown and the hospitality sector is seeing massive changes in the way it will need to operate. As with most companies in this market, we will need to adapt and change the way we do things and this has obviously affected our future plans. We are doing all we can to open-up again and this will take time and effort, to be able to serve our customers in a safe and efficient way. At HUMPIT we take food safety very seriously and all of our staff are trained to know how to help customers who are concerned about allergens in our products. With a menu that is 100% plant-based, we have a very small amount of allergens in our products, mainly the gluten in our pita breads and the sesame in our hummus and tahina sauce.
